Sponsored by Innovate UK, The British Standards Institute (BSI) has recently published a new publicly available specification (PAS) on responsible innovation.
PAS440: Responsible Innovation is available free of charge and aims to provide an overarching guidance for innovators looking to develop new products, services or processes in a responsible manner.
Philippa Bevan, Director, commented: “The guidance emphasises the importance of the correct identification of relevant stakeholders and of stakeholder engagement in innovation. The guidance also recommends the use of market surveys and focus groups to identify stakeholders and issues that an innovation may raise, stating that this work should be done by a reputable market research organisation if there is insufficient skill in-house.”
Accelerate Associates has a long track-history in early stage medical device market research. From market assessments to competitor bench-marking and stakeholder analyses, Accelerate provides a bespoke solution to identify the market intelligence required for your innovation development.
Philippa continues: “As an independent marketing and market research consultancy, we deliver bespoke intelligence reports based predominantly on primary research. Stakeholder and key opinion leader interviews often provide insight that can feed into the design of better products in healthcare and occasionally, market feedback can dramatically affect product development concepts in ways not previously envisaged by the innovator. For example, clinical use feedback from surgeons can dramatically affect surgical instrument design.”
The guide was developed with Innovate UK and draws on inputs from organisations spanning the commercial, academic and third-sector markets and may act as a helpful aid for innovators looking to achieve greater economic and social impact.
PAS440 is a recommended read for anyone interested in responsible innovation or who are looking to develop a new medical device.
BSI is also keen to receive feedback from anyone using the guidance. Click here to visit the BSI website where you can download a copy of PAS440 or provide feedback
