Sensore is an intelligent pressure sensing system designed to help prevent pressure ulcers through continuous pressure monitoring, real time alerts and personalised repositioning guidance.
Pressure ulcers remain one of the most costly and preventable harms across health and social care. Sensore had already secured early funding and developed a working concept, but needed independent evidence of market demand, product market fit and commercial opportunity to support future investment and commercialisation activities.
The company commissioned Accelerate Associates to conduct an independent market assessment of Sensore, gathering insight from healthcare professionals, care providers and wheelchair users.
The challenge
As an early-stage health technology company, Sensore needed credible third-party evidence to answer several key questions:
- Is pressure ulcer prevention still a significant challenge for healthcare providers and end users?
- How well does Sensore address unmet needs within the market?
- Which customer groups represent the strongest commercial opportunities?
- What barriers to adoption might exist?
Importantly, the company required an independent assessment that could be used to strengthen investor discussions, grant applications and commercial planning.
Our approach
Accelerate Associates designed and delivered a mixed methods market assessment combining quantitative and qualitative research.
The project included:
- An online survey completed by over 200 respondents
- Stakeholder interviews
- Input from occupational therapists, tissue viability nurses, care home managers, community care professionals and wheelchair users.
The research went beyond simple concept testing, exploring the practical realities of pressure ulcer prevention, purchasing decision making and workflow integration across NHS, care home and community settings.
Key findings
Findings confirmed that pressure ulcer prevention remains a major challenge across health and social care settings.
Particularly powerful insight emerged from interviews with wheelchair users and tissue viability clinicians. Participants described the profound personal, clinical and economic impact of severe pressure ulcers, reinforcing the importance of preventative technologies that can reduce avoidable harm before it occurs.
Outcome
The project provided Sensor Health with robust, independent evidence of market demand and product market fit.
The findings have helped support the company’s commercial strategy development, providing independent validation of both the clinical need and market opportunity.
Since the research was completed, Sensor Health has continued to build momentum, securing paid pilot deployments and obtaining NIHR funding for a clinical usability study.
Testimonial
“We were really pleased with the level of detail in the report. The findings gave us exactly what we needed — a completely independent assessment of market demand and product market fit. The evidence generated through the project has been extremely valuable as we continue our fundraising and commercialisation journey.”
