Pharmacy prescribers are increasingly involved in drug administration as well as prescribing whereas clinicians are increasingly removed from the decision of how to deliver medication. This was a key finding in a recent Accelerate survey of hospital nurses, nurse prescribers, hospital pharmacists and pharmacy prescribers.
With shifting roles, a key benefit of using nurse prescribers was that incorrect or inappropriate administration of medication was more likely to be identified. From a pharmacy perspective, pharmacists are concerned whether the correct administration type e.g. infusion pump, is being used with the correct medication.
